**Short answer:** For Instagram and Facebook feed ads, use a 4:5 portrait image; Meta recommends 1440 by 1800 pixels, and 1080 by 1350 is the same shape. For Stories and Reels, use 9:16 at 1440 by 2560 and keep text out of the top 14%, bottom 35% and 6% each side. TikTok carousel images are 720 by 1280 vertical.

For Instagram and Facebook feed ads, make a 4:5 portrait image. Meta's Ads Guide recommends 1440 by 1800 pixels. For Stories and Reels, make a 9:16 image at 1440 by 2560 and keep text and logos out of the edges. For TikTok image carousels, TikTok lists 720 by 1280 for vertical images.

Every figure below comes from the platforms' own specification pages, which we checked on 8 November 2026. Specs change without notice, so follow the links before a big campaign.

## What size should an image ad be on Instagram and Facebook?

Use 4:5 portrait for feeds and 9:16 for Stories and Reels.

| Placement | Aspect ratio | Recommended size | Minimum | Max file size | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Facebook Feed | 4:5 | 1440 x 1800 px | 600 px wide | 30 MB | [Meta Ads Guide](https://www.facebook.com/business/ads-guide/update/image/facebook-feed) |
| Instagram Feed | 4:5 | 1440 x 1800 px | 500 px wide | 30 MB | [Meta Ads Guide](https://www.facebook.com/business/ads-guide/update/image/instagram-feed) |
| Facebook Stories | 9:16 | 1440 x 2560 px | 500 px wide | 30 MB | [Meta Ads Guide](https://www.facebook.com/business/ads-guide/update/image/facebook-story) |
| Instagram Stories | 9:16 | 1440 x 2560 px | 500 px wide | 30 MB | [Meta Ads Guide](https://www.facebook.com/business/ads-guide/update/image/instagram-story) |
| Instagram Reels | 9:16 | 1440 x 2560 px | 500 px wide | 30 MB | [Meta Ads Guide](https://www.facebook.com/business/ads-guide/update/image/instagram-reels) |

All five accept JPG or PNG. The Instagram Feed page lists proportions from 191 x 100 (1.91:1 landscape) to 400 x 500 (4:5 portrait), so landscape and square images also run there. Portrait takes up more of the screen, which is why 4:5 is the recommended shape.

### Is 1080 x 1350 still fine for Meta ads?

Yes. 1080 by 1350 is exactly the same 4:5 shape as 1440 by 1800, at a lower resolution. It is well above the minimum widths Meta lists. Meta now recommends the larger size, so use it when you design from scratch. The same applies to 1080 by 1920 against 1440 by 2560 for Stories.

Adrizq exports image ads at 1080 by 1350, which fits the 4:5 feed shape on Facebook and Instagram.

## What are the safe zones for Stories and Reels?

Keep text, logos and other key content out of roughly the top 14%, the bottom 35% and 6% on each side. Meta gives the same guidance on its Facebook Stories, Instagram Stories and Instagram Reels pages, because interface elements such as the profile icon and the call-to-action button sit over those areas ([Meta Ads Guide](https://www.facebook.com/business/ads-guide/update/image/instagram-story)).

On a 1440 by 2560 image that works out as follows. We calculated the pixels from Meta's percentages.

| Edge | Share to keep clear | Pixels at 1440 x 2560 | Pixels at 1080 x 1920 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top | 14% | 358 px | 269 px |
| Bottom | 35% | 896 px | 672 px |
| Left | 6% | 86 px | 65 px |
| Right | 6% | 86 px | 65 px |

That leaves a central area of about 1267 by 1306 pixels on the larger size for your headline, product and offer. The bottom band is the big one. Do not put your price or phone number there.

## How much text can go on the image?

There is no longer a hard limit. Meta's help text says "There is no longer a limit on the amount of text that can exist in your ad image", while still advising that "images with less than 20% text perform better" ([Meta Business Help Centre](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/980593475366490); removal reported by [Search Engine Journal](https://www.searchenginejournal.com/facebook-removes-the-20-text-limit-on-ad-images/381844/)).

Text outside the image has length guidance too:

| Placement | Primary text | Headline |
|---|---|---|
| Facebook Feed | 50 to 150 characters | 27 characters |
| Instagram Feed | 125 characters | 40 characters |

These are recommendations from the same Meta Ads Guide pages.

## What size is a TikTok image ad?

TikTok's carousel ads take two or more images at one of three sizes ([TikTok Business Help Center](https://ads.tiktok.com/help/article/specifications-for-carousel-ads), last updated September 2026):

| Orientation | Size | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Vertical | 720 x 1280 px | 9:16, fills the screen |
| Square | 640 x 640 px | 1:1 |
| Horizontal | 1200 x 628 px | Landscape |

The same page lists JPG, JPEG or PNG, between 2 and 35 images, and a suggested file size of 100 KB or less per image. It covers TikTok and TikTok Ad Network placements.

For video, TikTok's in-feed ad page recommends vertical 9:16 at a minimum of 540 by 960 pixels ([TikTok](https://ads.tiktok.com/help/article/tiktok-auction-in-feed-ads), last updated June 2026). Its creative best practices add "orienting vertically at 9:16, shooting at least 720P resolution" ([TikTok](https://ads.tiktok.com/help/article/creative-best-practices?lang=en)).

### What is TikTok's safe zone?

TikTok does not give one fixed percentage. Its in-feed specification page says "The safe zone size is determined by the dimension", and it also depends on caption length and any add-ons. The page offers downloadable safe zone templates, including a right-to-left Arabic version ([TikTok](https://ads.tiktok.com/help/article/tiktok-auction-in-feed-ads)). Download the template that matches your format and language, and lay it over your design before export. Our guide to [Arabic and Urdu ad design](/guides/arabic-urdu-ad-design) covers right-to-left layout in more detail.

## Which size should a small business make first?

Make one 4:5 design first, then adapt it. The 4:5 image covers Facebook and Instagram feeds, which is where most small-budget campaigns start.

1. **Design at 4:5.** Use 1440 by 1800 if you can, or 1080 by 1350. Keep the product, headline and price in the middle two thirds.
2. **Extend to 9:16 for Stories and Reels.** Add space above and below rather than stretching. Check the 14% top and 35% bottom bands are free of text.
3. **Make a 720 by 1280 version for TikTok carousels.** It is the same 9:16 shape as Stories, so you can export your Stories design at this size.
4. **Check text on a phone.** Open each file on a real phone at full screen. If you cannot read the price at arm's length, enlarge it.
5. **Name files by placement.** For example "eid-gift-box_feed_4x5.png" and "eid-gift-box_story_9x16.png", so the right file goes to the right placement.

A dedicated 9:16 version means you decide what sits in the safe area, rather than adapting a feed image at the last minute.

## What are the most common sizing mistakes?

Most problems come from reusing one file everywhere. Check these before you upload:

- **Price or phone number in the bottom band of a Story.** The bottom 35% sits under interface elements, so move key details into the middle.
- **A square design on TikTok.** It runs, but a 720 by 1280 vertical version fills the screen.
- **Heavy PNG files on TikTok carousels.** TikTok suggests 100 KB or less per image, so export photos as compressed JPGs.
- **Small type.** Text that reads well on a laptop can be too small on a phone. Test on a real phone first.
- **Right-to-left copy on a left-to-right template.** Arabic and Urdu need their own layout, and TikTok offers an RTL safe zone file.

## Quick reference

| You want | Make this |
|---|---|
| Facebook or Instagram feed | 4:5, 1440 x 1800 (1080 x 1350 is fine) |
| Stories or Reels on Meta | 9:16, 1440 x 2560 (1080 x 1920 is fine), clear top 14%, bottom 35%, sides 6% |
| TikTok carousel | 720 x 1280 vertical, or 640 x 640 square, or 1200 x 628 horizontal |
| TikTok video | 9:16, at least 540 x 960, ideally 720p or higher |

Sizes are only half the job. Before a Ramadan or Eid campaign, check the wording too: see [Meta's personal attributes rule](/guides/meta-ads-personal-attributes-religion) and [TikTok's rules for religious content](/guides/tiktok-ads-religious-content).

## Frequently asked questions

### What size should an Instagram ad image be?

For the Instagram feed, Meta's Ads Guide recommends a 4:5 portrait image at 1440 by 1800 pixels, in JPG or PNG, up to 30 MB. The feed also accepts shapes from 1.91:1 landscape to 4:5 portrait. For Instagram Stories and Reels, use 9:16 at 1440 by 2560 pixels and keep text out of the top 14%, bottom 35% and 6% on each side.

### Is 1080 x 1350 still OK for Facebook and Instagram ads?

Yes. It is the same 4:5 shape as Meta's recommended 1440 by 1800, at a lower resolution, and well above the minimum widths Meta lists of 600 pixels for Facebook Feed and 500 for Instagram Feed. Meta now recommends the larger size, so use it when you can, but 1080 by 1350 images are still accepted.

### Does Meta still have the 20% text rule?

No. Meta's help text says there is no longer a limit on the amount of text that can exist in your ad image, and the old text overlay tool has gone. Meta still advises that images with less than 20% text perform better, so keep image text to a short headline, the offer and perhaps a price.

### What size is a TikTok image ad?

TikTok's carousel ad specifications list three sizes: 720 by 1280 pixels vertical, 640 by 640 square and 1200 by 628 horizontal, in JPG or PNG. A carousel takes between 2 and 35 images, and TikTok suggests keeping each file to 100 KB or less. Vertical images fill the most screen and match TikTok's 9:16 format.

### What is the safe zone for Instagram Stories ads?

Meta's Ads Guide says to keep text, logos and other key content out of about the top 14%, the bottom 35% and 6% on each side of a 9:16 Stories image. On a 1440 by 2560 image that is roughly 358 pixels at the top, 896 at the bottom and 86 on each side. The same guidance applies to Facebook Stories and Instagram Reels.
