# Canva Ramadan templates or an AI ad generator? How to choose

Canva suits people who like designing and need many formats. AI ad generators suit busy owners who need ad copy and variations fast. How to choose.

**Short answer:** Use Canva if you enjoy designing, need formats beyond ads such as posters and Stories, or your team already works in it. Use an AI ad generator if you need finished ad copy and many variations quickly, or want unsupported claims flagged. You can also combine them: generate drafts, then polish them in Canva.

Canva is the better choice for people who like to design, need many kinds of content and want control over every element. An AI ad generator is the better choice for people who need finished ads, copy included, without designing them, and who want to test many versions.

The two are not rivals for every job. You can use an AI tool for first drafts and Canva for posters, menus and final touches. This guide helps you decide where to start, with prices as listed in November 2026.

## What is the real difference between Canva and an AI ad generator?

Canva gives you a canvas and templates, and you make the decisions. An AI ad generator starts from your product and makes the first set of decisions for you, which you then edit or reject.

| | Canva | AI ad generator |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | A template or a blank canvas | Your brief, product or website link (depending on the tool) |
| Ad copy | You write it, with optional AI writing help | Written for you, then edited by you |
| Formats | Almost anything: ads, Stories, posters, menus, slides, video | Usually ad sizes only; some tools make a single size |
| Control | Every font, colour and position | Less control; you edit or regenerate |
| Claim checking | Up to you | Some tools flag unsupported claims |
| Best for | People who enjoy design or need many formats | People short on time who need ad variations |

## Who should choose Canva?

Choose Canva if design is part of how you like to work, or if ads are only a small slice of what you make. It is the stronger tool when:

- You also need print menus, posters, packaging inserts, presentations or event flyers
- You want to place every element yourself, including Arabic calligraphy or a specific font
- You work with a team and need shared brand assets and approvals
- You make short videos as well as images
- You already pay for Canva and only need a few ads a month

Canva's pricing page lists a Free plan, Pro at US$120 a year for one person and Business at US$210 a year per person on yearly billing ([Canva pricing](https://www.canva.com/pricing/)). Prices vary by country. The Free plan includes more than 1.6 million templates and one Brand Kit; Pro lists more than 3.6 million templates, five Brand Kits, Magic Resize, Translate and the photo background remover. Canva also lists AI ad creation through Canva Grow as a Premium AI tool, which uses a shared monthly AI allowance that varies by plan.

## Who should choose an AI ad generator?

Choose an AI ad generator if the hard part for you is writing and producing ads, not arranging them. It is the stronger choice when:

- You have little time and no designer
- You want several versions of each ad to test against each other
- You find it hard to write headlines and short ad copy
- You want ads built from your own website, products and colours
- You want help spotting invented reviews, false deadlines or health claims before they go live

AI tools differ a lot in languages, video, content rules and price. Our [comparison of AdCreative.ai alternatives](/guides/adcreative-ai-alternatives) lists features and prices for several, and our [buyer's checklist](/guides/ai-ad-generator-for-muslim-businesses) explains what to test before you pay.

## What should you watch for in Canva Ramadan templates?

Watch for templates that look good but do not sell, and for wording you would not want in an ad. Canva's template search returned more than 18,000 Ramadan templates when we checked ([Canva templates](https://www.canva.com/templates/?query=ramadan)). That choice is a strength, and it brings some risks.

**Greetings are not ads.** Many templates are "Ramadan Mubarak" posters with no product, price or next step. An ad needs to show what you sell and what to do next.

**Placeholder offers.** Replace any template text such as "Limited time only" with facts that are true. In the UK, CAP Code rule 3.30 bans falsely saying an offer is available only for a limited time ([CAP Code](https://www.asa.org.uk/type/non_broadcast/code_section/03.html)).

**Religious text.** Some templates include verses or religious calligraphy. Using them to sell is a different matter from a greeting. A 2021 fatwa from the Mufti of Malaysia's Federal Territories, for example, says Quran verses may not be used to promote a product, as reported by the law firm [Skrine](https://www.skrine.com/insights/alerts/july-2021/federal-territories-fatwa-sale-of-products-using-v). See [Can you use Quran verses or hadith to sell products?](/guides/quran-verses-in-advertising) and ask a scholar you trust about your own case.

**Copy that names the viewer's faith.** Meta's Advertising Standards say ads "must not contain content that asserts or implies personal attributes", and religion is one of them ([Meta](https://transparency.meta.com/policies/ad-standards/objectionable-content/privacy-violations-personal-attributes/)). "Ramadan Mubarak from all of us" is a greeting. "Fellow Muslims, this one's for you" addresses the viewer's religion and risks rejection.

**Arabic text.** If you type Arabic into a template, check that letters join, the text runs right to left and the layout still reads from the right. Our guide to [Arabic and Urdu ad design](/guides/arabic-urdu-ad-design) covers what to check.

**Sameness.** Popular templates are open to everyone, so a competitor may run the same layout. Change the layout, photography and colours enough that the ad looks like yours.

**Size.** Meta recommends 1440 by 1800 pixels for 4:5 feed images; 1080 by 1350 is the same shape and still accepted ([Meta Ads Guide](https://www.facebook.com/business/ads-guide/update/image/facebook-feed)). Many templates are square or poster-shaped, so resize before export.

## What does each route look like in practice?

Here is a made-up example. "Layla's Attar", a small online perfume shop, needs eight Ramadan image ads in English and Arabic.

| Step | Canva route | AI generator route |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Search Ramadan templates and pick two layouts | Paste the shop's website or product link |
| 2 | Write eight headlines and short texts, in both languages | Review the generated ads and their copy |
| 3 | Swap in product photos and brand colours | Reject ads with wrong products or claims she cannot support |
| 4 | Remove placeholder offers and check Arabic text | Fix or confirm any flagged lines |
| 5 | Resize to 4:5 and export | Download the ads she approves |
| 6 | Run and compare | Run and compare |

Neither route skips checking. With Canva, the writing and accuracy are all on Layla. With an AI tool, the writing is drafted for her, but she still approves every line, image and price.

A third route combines the two: generate drafts with an AI tool, download the images, then add finishing touches or make matching posters in Canva.

## Which is cheaper?

It depends on how many ads you need and whether you need other designs too. If Canva Pro already pays for itself through menus and social posts, the extra cost of ads is your time. If you only need ads, compare the cost per ad you would actually publish.

Prices below were listed on each vendor's site in November 2026, in US dollars before tax.

| Option | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Canva Free | US$0 | Templates, one Brand Kit, limited AI |
| Canva Pro | US$120 a year, one person | More templates, five Brand Kits, Magic Resize, Translate |
| Canva Business | US$210 a year per person | Pro features plus team and brand controls |
| Adrizq | Free with no card, or Starter at $19.99 a month | Free: 5 image ads a month with a small mark. Paid plans: see [pricing](/pricing) |

We make that tool, so read its row with that in mind. It makes 4:5 image ads only, at 1080 by 1350, in seven languages, and flags unsupported claims for you to fix or confirm. It does not make posters, menus or video, which is where Canva is the better tool.

## A quick way to decide

Answer these five questions. If most answers sit in one column, start there.

1. Do you enjoy designing? Yes points to Canva. No points to an AI tool.
2. Do you need formats other than ads? Yes points to Canva.
3. Do you struggle to write ad copy? Yes points to an AI tool.
4. Do you want many versions to test? Yes points to an AI tool.
5. Does your team already use Canva? Yes points to Canva, perhaps with an AI tool for drafts.

## Checklist before you publish, whichever tool you use

- The ad shows a real product and a true offer
- No invented deadline, review or health claim
- No copy that addresses the viewer's religion
- No religious text used to sell an unrelated product
- Arabic or Urdu text checked by a native reader
- Exported at 4:5 for feeds, with key text away from the edges

## Frequently asked questions

### Are Canva's Ramadan templates free?

Many are. Canva's pricing page lists more than 1.6 million templates on the Free plan and more than 3.6 million on Pro, so some Ramadan designs need a paid plan. Its template search showed more than 18,000 Ramadan results when we checked in November 2026. Whichever template you use, replace placeholder offers with true details and add your product.

### Can Canva make ads with AI?

Yes. Canva's pricing page lists AI ad creation through Canva Grow as a Premium AI tool, along with Magic Write, Magic Resize and other AI features. Premium AI tools draw on a shared monthly AI allowance that varies by plan. You still choose the layout and check the copy yourself, including any claims, offers and religious wording.

### Can I edit AI-generated ads in Canva?

You can upload an exported image into Canva and add text, shapes or other elements on top, or use it inside a larger design such as a poster. Editing the original text layers depends on the AI tool's export format. If the ad came with flagged claims, keep the approved wording when you edit so you do not reintroduce a problem.

### Is Canva or an AI ad generator better for Arabic ads?

Either can work if the text is handled properly. Canva gives you full control over fonts and placement, which helps if you know Arabic typography. An AI tool that supports Arabic can write and lay out the ad for you. In both cases, check that letters join, the layout reads from the right and a native reader approves the wording.

### Can I use Quran verses from a Canva template in my ad?

Be careful. A 2021 fatwa from the Mufti of Malaysia's Federal Territories says Quran verses may not be used to promote a product, and UK advertising guidance warns against exploiting religious imagery for purely commercial purposes. A greeting such as Ramadan Mubarak is different from a verse used to sell perfume. Ask a scholar you trust about your own case before running it.
